Round table on chemical safety and security in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan
From 17 to 19 April 2024, a round table on chemical safety issues was held in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan. Representatives of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Tajikistan, the US Department of State and experts from the Global Foundation for Civilian Research and Development(CRDF) actively participated in the round table. In particular, representatives of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Agency for Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security at the Tajikistan National Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the State Committee for National Security and the Customs Service participated from the Republic of Tajikistan.
The objective of this event is to enhance the detection and prevention of potential chemical safety and security threats through joint cooperation between law enforcement and industry, and to coordinate and take initial steps towards the establishment of National Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Hazard Reduction Committees to facilitate inteinstitutional cooperation and information sharing.
During the event, speakers from the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Tajikistan and international experts presented various reports on the topic of daily chemical threats, informing the public about chemical safety and security, coordinating cooperation between government agencies, law enforcement agencies and industrialists related to chemical safety and security. The event was held in the format of working groups and analytical exercises.
In the result of the round table, the participants came to the conclusion that it is necessary to strengthen regional cooperation in the field of chemical safety and security.
