IAEA REGIONAL TRAINING COURSE ON METHODOLOGIES FOR MODELING THE IMPACT OF RADIATION ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE POPULATION
IAEA Regional Training Course of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on "Methodologies for modeling the impact of radiation factors on the environment and the population" was held in Dushanbe from 26 to 30 September 2011. Representatives of Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Albania, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, Croatia, and Tajikistan attended the course.
Lecturers at the course were qualified experts from the United Kingdom, Cuba, and IAEA. The purpose of this course was to introduce participants with new methods of impact modeling of radiation factors on people and the environment. Several computer simulation programs have been developed using these methods, namely ERICA, RESRAD BIOTA, and others.
Participants in the training course had the opportunity to apply in practice these programs. Certificates were awarded to participants after successful completion of tasks.
In that context, it is important to note, that this course aimed to help participants to model the impacts of radiation factors on the environment and the population in their countries. On the example of Tajikistan, this may be a determination of the impact of radioactive tailings on the environment and the population. Participants also visited the cultural sights in Dushanbe.
