According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, 2020-2040 was declared the "20th anniversary of the study and development of natural, exact and mathematical Sciences." In this regard, the Branch of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (NRSA NANT) in the Soughd Region, in cooperation with the Education Department of the Soughd Region, planned in 2021 to conduct a series of events dedicated to the basics of ensuring radiation safety for general education institutions, schools and gymnasiums located near radioactive tailings, particularly in the cities and districts - B. Gafurov, Istiqlol, Khujand, and Buston.
On February 8, 2021, the NRSA Branch in the Soughd region in cooperation with the Department of Education of the Soughd region, including the chief specialist of the Education Department of the Soughd region - Sarkhadov B., the consultant of the Education department of Khujand city - Porsoyev M., employees of the NRSA Branch: Rakhmatov N., Adhamov A., Rakhimberdiev Sh. and Nazarov Kh. had been held an interactive event on Radiation protection for tutors and students of secondary school No. 22 named after Dzhabbor Rasulov in Khujand city.
During the event, students and teachers were familiarized with the basics of radiation safety. Also, they have distributed booklets calling for environmental protection.
The program of the seminar covered the following topics:
- methods of protection of the population against ionizing radiation (presentation);
- the current state of the radiological and environmental situation in the world;
- principles of dosimetric devices use;
Besides, during the interactive event a discussion on the aspects of radiation safety.
The result of the meeting with teachers and students of secondary school No. 22 named after Dzhabbor Rasulov in Khujand was very productive and allowed participants to familiarize themselves with the basics of radiation safety. The NRSA Branch and the Education Department of Soughd Region have a joint plan to continue to conduct these educational events.
