On September 23, 2021, on the sidelines of the 65th session of the IAEA General Conference, Ilhom Mirsaidzoda, Director of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of NAST and Qalandar Idibek - the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Austrian Republic, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the IAEA met with Director Ms. Eve-Külli KALA and  Ms. Sandra Steyskal - Deputy Director of the Department of Technical Cooperation in European Section of the IAEA.

At the meeting, the prospects of cooperation for the next 5 years were discussed. An overview of the implementation of a number of regional and national IAEA projects in different institutions and organizations of Tajikistan over the last years is presented.
Besides, some issues that interfere to the successful implementation of projects were deliberated.

The parties emphasized the good dynamics and effective implementation of regional and national projects from institutions and organizations of the Republic of Tajikistan.

It was noted the significant contribution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in the amount of 1 million USD to the construction of a modern CBRN forensic center, where 16 laboratories will be commissioned. Moreover, the Government of the RT provided a support in the amount 300 thousand USD for the construction of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency Branch in the Sughd region, aimed at conducting the inspections of facilities that will deal with the rehabilitation of contaminated areas with uranium site.

On the basis of this center, Tajikistan offered the IAEA to conduct regional training courses and workshops.

The IAEA is planned to supply modern equipment, as well as train personnel for the new CBRN forensic center under the framework of the implementation of the national project.
