On April 8, 2022, an official ceremony was held to transfer equipment to the Border Guard Service of the SCNS RT as part of the implementation of the National Action Plan of the Republic of Tajikistan on UN Security Council Resolution 1540.
Kevin Roshdieh of the National Nuclear Security Administration of US Department of Energy (US DoE/NNSA) and Director Ilhom Mirsaidzoda of the Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency, as a national coordinator, joined First Deputy Chairman SCNS, Commander of the Border Guards of the Republic of Tajikistan, Colonel-General Radzhabali Rahmonali, to turn over surveillance, inspection and tactical equipment for use by employees of the Border Guard Service under SCNS RT to enhance security at the Border with Afghanistan.
This technical assistance was provided as part of the US DoE/NNSA Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence’s green border security project, which aims to strengthen the infrastructure of the Border Guards under SCNS RT along the border with Afghanistan. The US Department of Energy has worked closely with the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan since 2013 to combat the smuggling of nuclear and radiological materials.
The multi-million dollar project includes special uniforms, equipment for conducting operations in mountainous areas, special protective uniforms for demining, night vision devices, binoculars, monoculars, transceivers (radio stations), special military vehicles, motor vehicles, mini vans in which sensitive equipment is installed to support counter-smuggling operations and to detect and interdict illegal trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials.
