Commissioning ceremony of modern nuclear and radiation detectors at the customs checkpoint "Fotehobod
On October 6, 2022, at the Fotehobod customs checkpoint, the commissioning ceremony of installed modern nuclear and radiation detectors took place, aimed at prevention of terrorism utilizing the weapons of mass destruction. The event held within the framework of the National action plan of the Republic of Tajikistan on the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1540, which was approved by Government Decree No. 54 of February 9, 2016.
The Chairman of the Customs Service – Khurshed Karimzoda, Director of the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency and the National Coordinator – Ilhom Mirsaidzoda, and the Principal Deputy Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration at the US Department of Energy – Frank A. Rose participated at the ceremony.
It should be pointed out, within the framework of this project, similar equipment was installed at the customs checkpoint "Dusti", "Panji Poyon", "Guliston", "Sarazm" and "Dushanbe International Airport". In addition, the work is underway at the Khujand International Airport to complete the installation of nuclear and radiation detectors.
The project also includes the provision of hand-held equipment to prevent the illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials and the training of Customs officers on the use of this equipment.
In the following years, the installation of similar equipment at other customs checkpoints and airports is planned. Additionally, the provision of special transport and equipment along the border with Afghanistan and other green borders is scheduled to be launched.
