Under the Chairmanship of Tajikistan the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation discussed the issues of non-proliferation of WMD
On 15 May 2019 in Hofburg, Vienna the plenary session of the Forum for Security Cooperation was held under the Chairmanship of Tajikistan. The session was dedicated to the process of implementation of the UN Security Council resolution 1540 (non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction).
As a keynote speaker the Chairmanship invited Mr. Ilhom Mirsaidov - Director of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, who delivered presentation on the process of implementation of the provisions of the UN Security Council Resolution 1540 in our country.
During the plenary meeting the participants have discussed the current state and prospects of joint actions on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, their delivery technologies, as well as the ways of overcoming problems and challenges in this process.
The representative of Tajikistan has delivered a comprehensive presentation on the current laws and legislation regulating the issues related to non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and export control in the country. The participants were acquainted with the structure of the Agency on nuclear and radiation safety and the Regional training center on WMD Non-Proliferation and Export Control for countries of Central Asia, Caucasus and Afghanistan, located in Dushanbe, that significantly contributes in training of relevant experts in the region. In addition, Mr. Mirsaidov has informed the participants on the ongoing projects on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and export control implemented by the Government of Tajikistan in close cooperation with international partners.
The plenary meeting, arranged to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the OSCE principles on non-proliferation (dated 3 of December 1994), has provided a convenient platform for discussion of potential measures for strengthening the OSCE contribution in the implementation of voluntary national plans on the eve of preparations to the 2021 Comprehensive Review of the implementation of the UNSC Resolution 1540.
