OPEN LECTURE “INTERESTING ABOUT SOLAR RADIATION AND CURRENT ISSUES OF SKIN CANCER IN THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN”
On April 14, 2023, as part of the activities of WiN Tajikistan, Abidzhanova Nigora made an open lecture on the topic “Interesting about solar radiation and current issues of skin cancer in the Republic of Tajikistan.
Nigora spoke about the benefits and harms of solar insolation on human skin, as well as the effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the Sun or artificial sources, such as artificial tanning equipment (solarium), the regular use of which, according to the World Health Organization, causes the development of cancer skin. This is partly due to the fact that tanning beds contain 10 times more UV-A rays compared to the sun's rays.
Excessive sun exposure by a high UV index and associated sunburn in childhood and adolescence are one of the risk factors leading to the development of skin cancer later in life. A certain amount of UV rays has health benefits, including production of vitamin D, serotonin production and improved mood, as well as a stronger immune system.
The negative effects of UV radiation can be prevented using simple and effective preventive measures. If the UV index is 3 or higher, some comprehensive sun protection is recommended.
Nigora also spoke about the current issues of skin cancer in Tajikistan, which ranks third in the overall incidence structure of malignant neoplasms, about the risks associated with this disease and about preventive measures, including the correct and rational use of sunscreen, hats, sunscreens, glasses and umbrellas that help reduce the risk of malignant skin tumors.
