On June 30, 2023, as part of the activities of WiN Tajikistan a seminar was held on the topic: “Issues of palliative care in Tajikistan.”
The speaker was a consultant-expert of the National Association of Palliative Care of the Republic of Tajikistan, assistant of the Department of Oncology and Radiation Therapy of Tajik State Medical University named after Abuali ibn Sino Abidzhanova Nigora.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines it as follows: Palliative care is an approach aimed at improving the quality of life of the patient and his family facing a life-threatening illness.
In her presentation, Nigora Abidzhanova spoke about the history of emergence of palliative care in the Republic of Tajikistan, legislation and regulatory documents, as well as acute problems with the provision of palliative care in Tajikistan, in particular, the acute shortage of painkillers.
Niolbi Khasanovna - Director of the Association of Nurses and Midwives, spoke about her experience of working with seriously ill patients, as well as practical issues of palliative care, including how to care for patients so that they do not have serious complications.
