Scientific and practical conference dedicated to the “International Day of Glacier Preservation”

14 March 2024 in the conference hall of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan on the initiative of the association “Glacier Research by Women” of the Center for Glacier Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Youth Association "Atom" of the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan held the Republican Scientific and Practical Conference entitled “Tajikistan – the driving force for glacier conservation in the world”.
This conference was held with participation of schoolchildren from secondary schools of Dushanbe, representatives of scientists and researchers of NAST. The speakers talked about global initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon on water and climate issues, including the declaration of “March 21 – World Glacier Preservation Day“, “2025 – International Year of Glacier Preservation” and "Twenty Years of Study and Development of Natural and Mathematical Sciences".

Director of the Center for Glacier Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan - Kayumov Abdulhamid noted that glaciers are one of the main sources of water in all countries of the world, and that their role in providing drinking water to the planet's population is great.
To continue, Ilkhom Mirsaidzoda, Director of the CBRN Safety and Security Agency of NAST, spoke about the initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon in the field of water and climate, as well as the role of the Republic of Tajikistan as an driving country in solving water and climate problems in the world. He stressed that it was due to the efforts of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Honorable Emomali Rahmon, as a result of which on December 14, 2022 the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization approved 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Protection and March 21 as the World Glacier Day, through the positive adoption by 153 countries of the world and it is an honor and proud for every Tajik citizen.
It was noted that the purpose of this conference is to inform students about the state of glaciers in the context of global warming, to develop the main ways of cooperation and involvement of students and young people in the field of glacier studies, to explain the impact and relevance of nuclear technology to climate change, environment and people.
At the end of the conference, according to the results of the "Best Essay" contest, the winners were awarded certificates and memorable gifts.
