Meeting of WiN members with TechWomen representatives
On April 19, 2024, a meeting of WiN members with Techwomen representatives took place. As part of the meeting symposium on the topic "Women in STEM" has been held. The event was attended by Katie Zee – the Director of Techwoman, Institute of International Education, professional mentors and Techwoman's fellows from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Egypt, and Lebanon, Zarina Sayfieva – the President of WiN Tajikistan, Gaybullaeva Zumrat Habibovna – Professor, Tajik Technical University and other WiN Tajikistan members.
First session was devoted to the work of WiN Tajikistan across the science industry and exchange ideas for attracting more women to careers in science. “The inclusion of young women is critical to ensure the sustainability of their involvement in STEM...and we need the support of whole society – families, institutions, educational and government authorities,” noted opening speaker Zarina Sayfieva, President of the National Chapter of WIN Tajikistan. She shared how WiN Tajikistan works toward its goals by collaborating with laboratories, universities and governmental organizations to bring STEM-focused tours, trainings, competitions, conferences and lectures to high school students and young women.
In the presentation “Who are Women in Nuclear of Tajikistan,” presented by Gaybullaeva Zumrat Habibovna she innovatively forged her own path within the realm of chemical science, introducing novel methodologies and perspectives that have contributed significantly to the field's advancement. Besides, she drew the attention to the natural resources and mountain topography of Tajikistan, and how they’ve encouraged its use in developing a more robust industry.
She was followed by “Who are TechWomen,” presented by fellows Amangul Orazova and mentor Rebecca Biswas. Amangul delved into the specifics of the program, while Rebecca shared her personal journey in STEM and how involvement in TechWomen can add tremendous value to one’s professional and personal life.
Attendees then engaged in small group networking before mentor Laura Messerschmitt took the floor to offer closing remarks, underscoring the value of strengthening connections among women in STEM and offering information on how to apply for the TechWomen program.
